Wife-beaters and Bitches

I was watching Saturday Night Live with Louie C.K. and he brought up something that has made me think. He mentioned how unbelievable it is that we have an article of clothing named after the beating of one's wife... and how NO ONE is offended by it.

There's more to that, I have been thinking about all the pressures that women have to endure. I know I know, another woman rant! But see that's the point. I hear people jokingly call women naggers, emotional, and even bitches.... and no one is ever outraged. We, as women, have so many ideals that are expected out of us. In fact the world has created a whole species of walking contradictions. We are meant to be sweet, nurturing and quiet... yet not boring. I don't understand all of these social constructs... that's enough for a woman to go crazy already! However, to add on to it women call each other bitches all the time. "Oh shut up bitch. Isn't she being a b**ch?" This may seem harmless but we are only perpetuating all of those social constructs. We as females cannot get along anymore. What happened? There are so many studies proving that we reduce stress by talking to our fellow female friends... but then why are we doing the exact opposite of what we were born to do?
We are constantly fighting each other instead of helping each other rise. BECAUSE OF OUR SOCIAL CONSTRUCTS! We are taught since little girls, subconsciously to hate other females. Think about it! Men have sports and organizations that build brother hood since childhood. What do women have? We have individual competition like beauty pageants and Disney movies that idealize finding LOVE over independence. Yes, yes, I freaking love Frozen and I know that this movie is the exception. But it's not just Disney... I am a film major so it pains me to admit that movies use women as props further making us into unworthy individuals who seek men for this sense of "worth."

So ... you will not hear me call anyone a bitch. And if it accidentally slips, know that it makes me deeply sad inside that I too have conformed to this pressure and disgusting social construct that we live in where women are still not equal... By far we were raised to be jealous of each other. Think of how much love we can give to the world if we only helped each other instead of competed with each other...

Next time you think about calling women naggers, emotional or a bitch remember... she has a lot of pressures she is trying to measure up to...
